Temporary road closure - Charlotte and Albert Street intersection
From 6am Saturday 27 December 2025 to 5am Monday 2 February 2026, Charlotte Street will be closed at the intersection of Albert Street to enable road reconstruction activities.
Work details
- Implementing traffic control arrangements and the temporary road closure
- Removing existing asphalt, kerbs and road base
- Undertaking utility and signal works for the refurbished intersection
- Earthworks to level existing road area including the use of vibration rollers
- Constructing new road pavement and kerbs.
Traffic and pedestrian changes
- Charlotte Street closed to vehicles at the Albert Street intersection. Detours will be in place
- Loading zones will be relocated or reduced on Charlotte Street between George and Edward streets. Information on access arrangements will be distributed prior to the closure
- Localised footpath changes and temporary closures on Charlotte and Albert streets with signed detours in place.
Work hours
Work will be undertaken continuously from 6am Saturday 27 December 2025 until 5am Monday 2 February 2026.
This activity is subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions. If required, this work will be rescheduled to the next available date.

Property access
- Vehicle access to properties on Charlotte Street will be maintained under the direction of traffic control
- The signalised intersections at George and Edwards Streets will be temporarily changed to facilitate access in and out of Charlotte Street throughout this closure
- The Uptown car park exit onto Charlotte Street will be closed during this work. Please utilise the exit ramp onto Elizabeth Street
- Access to local businesses onto Charlotte Street for deliveries and critical use be maintained via George and Edward streets under the direction of traffic control
- Parking arrangements on Charlotte Street may change. Please follow signage and traffic control.
What to expect
- Increased noise, vibration and dust associated with the use of heavy machinery, road works and equipment
- Traffic delays. Please plan your journey and allow additional time if travelling through the area
- Changes to bus stops on Charlotte Street
- An increase in construction workers and vehicles.
Bus stop changes
From 6am Saturday 27 December 2025 to 5am Monday 2 February 2026, Charlotte Street stop 51 near Albert Street (Stop ID: 000051) and Charlotte Street stop 52 near Edward Street (Stop ID: 000052) will close.
During this time, bus services will be relocated to temporary stop 92 on Mary Street
