Herschel Street work area update
Work to modify footpaths, cycle infrastructure and landscaping in the Herschel Street work area will continue until mid-2026. Throughout construction, access will be maintained for pedestrians and cyclists between Herschel and Roma streets.
Work details
Work will involve:
- Changes to fencing around the work area
- Earthworks, landscaping and urban realm works including utilities installation, paving and installation of seating
- The use of equipment including road saws and jackhammers, vacuum excavation trucks, asphalting work, generators, lighting towers an hand tools
- Installation of new traffic signals and line marking.
Work hours
Work in the Herschel Street worksite will occur both during day and night shifts. Where night shift is required, it will be conducted between 6:30pm and 6:30am, Monday to Sunday, due to traffic permit requirements and for the safety of the community and our workers.
Work is subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions.

What to expect
- Increased noise, dust and vibration.
- Increased deliveries, movement of plant, machinery and equipment
- Increase in personnel carrying out the work
- Adjustments to pedestrian and cycle paths in the area
- Every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum.
Traffic and pedestrian impacts
- Herschel Street is permanently closed to vehicles between George and Roma streets
- Vehicles will no longer be able to access eastbound lanes on Roma Street from Herschel Street
- Pedestrian and cyclist access between Herschel and Roma streets will be maintained during construction.
