Roma Street – temporary eastbound lane and footpath changes
From December 2025, work will continue on the northern side of Roma Street to construct new utility service connections, footpaths, kerbs, utility and streetscape upgrades.
To support these activities, staged changes to traffic, pedestrian and public transport will occur on Roma Street between Garrick and Herschel streets.
Work details
- Implementing traffic control arrangements
- Construction of new footpaths, kerbs and streetscape upgrades
- Ongoing utility and service work for the new Roma Street Station
- Use of hand tools, excavators, mobile cranes and other equipment to remove and reinstate the footpath on Roma Street.
Traffic and pedestrian changes
The following changes will be introduced progressively between December 2025 and early 2026:
- Bus stops 124 and 125 on Roma Street temporarily moved approximately 30 metres west (towards Suncorp Stadium). Access will be maintained at all times
- Closure of the eastbound (inbound) lane/s on Roma Street between Garrick and Herschel streets. Eastbound access will be maintained for vehicles
- Closure of the western pedestrian crossing at the Makerston Street intersection. Access across Roma Street will be maintained via the eastern crossing
- Footpath changes and realignment of the northern footpath of Roma Street between Garrick and Herschel streets
- Traffic control and signage will be in place to assist motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

Work hours
Construction activities and the associated traffic and pedestrian changes will occur during both day and night shift.
Work is subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions.
What to expect
- Increase in noise, dust and vibration associated with the use of heavy machinery and equipment
- Changes to traffic arrangements and pedestrian detours. Please see map above for information
