Albert Street pedestrian gantry night-time closures - August 2025

From late-August 2025 for approximately two weeks, underground service installation work is required within the Albert Street pedestrian gantry.

To safely facilitate this work, night-time closures of the pedestrian gantry between Charlotte and Mary Streets will be required. During this time the pedestrian gantry will also be adjusted and reinstated.

What to expect

  • Nightly closures of Albert Street gantry
  • Temporary pedestrian detours
  • Increase in potential noise, dust and vibration
  • Increase in personnel carrying out works.

Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of this work on businesses, residents and commuters.

At the completion of works, the Albert Street pedestrian footpath will be reopened to the public at night.

Work details

Work will involve:

  • Implementing traffic control arrangements to establish a safe work area and pedestrian detour
  • Service installation work including but not limited to the use of saw cut, road saws, generators hand tools and light vehicles
  • Temporary relocation and reinstatement of gantry to delineate the pedestrian footpath and construction site.

Work hours

Construction activities and the associated pedestrian detour will take place between 7:00pm-6:00am. Work is subject to relevant
approvals and conditions.

Work will be carried out at night, seven days a week, subject to wet weather and unforeseen circumstances.

In the event of wet weather or unforeseen circumstances, this work may be rescheduled. Advance notification will be provided for any changes.

Traffic and pedestrian impacts

  • Nightly closures of the Albert Street pedestrian gantry between Charlotte and Mary streets
  • During this time, pedestrians will be detoured via Charlotte, Mary, Edward and George streets
  • Existing footpath closures on Mary Street outside Lot 1 and Lot 2 will remain in place
  • Access to properties will be maintained throughout the work, and traffic control will be in place to assist.
