Work achieved during track closures

We appreciate that track closures can be an inconvenience but they are unavoidable for work that can only be completed safely and efficiently while trains aren’t running – especially upgrades or construction that need to happen directly in the rail corridor.
A major milestone reached by Cross River Rail crews over the recent track closures in June and July was enabling the redirection of freight services to travel around Clapham Yard stabling facility, rather than through it. This allows works to continue in the yard with a reduced need for further track closures.
The teams successfully completed and handed over new tracks around the north and south of the yard for freight services, which means Clapham Yard itself is now entering a phase of major construction.
Located near Moorooka station, a rebuilt Clapham Yard will be an important part of the future rail network, as it will allow the rail operator to bring more trains into use, with space available to stable up to 27 trains.
Stabling yards are also important locations for crew facilities, train maintenance and train servicing – which are all critical for running an efficient and reliable rail service.
