Exhibition station to open for Ekka 2025

The new Exhibition station delivered as part of the Cross River Rail project will temporarily open for major events at the Brisbane Showgrounds, including this year’s Ekka.

With major construction now completed at the station, the new station temporarily opened for the first time for the Let’s Go Queensland Caravan & Camping Supershow (4-8 June) and will now open for other major events moving forward.

The new station features improved access with new lifts, a new entry plaza and pedestrian access to Bowen Bridge Road, as well as first class accessibility features including wayfinding signage, hearing aid loops, and step-free access to the station and platform via ramps and lifts.

About 1,700m³ of concrete, 1,100 tonnes of structural steel, and 11,000 tiles have been used to construct the station, while the station’s plaza contains approximately 73,000 custom bricks sourced from an Australian manufacturer to maintain the precinct’s heritage look and feel.

The new station will reopen for year-round services in line with the opening of the Cross River Rail tunnels, which is expected in 2029.

Any temporary station openings for major events, including specific timetables, will be communicated on an event-by-event basis and well in advance.
