Temporary road closure - Elizabeth Street between George Street and Edward Street

From 9am Saturday 21 September to 1pm Sunday 22 September, Elizabeth Street will be closed between George and Edward streets to remove the tower crane from the Albert Street northern station entrance building site (Lot 3).

During this period, work will occur continuously and involve

  • Implementing traffic control arrangements and the temporary road closure.
  • Assembling a mobile crane on Elizabeth Street
  • Disassembling the tower crane
  • Lifting sections of the tower crane onto trucks on Elizabeth Street

 

Traffic and pedestrian changes

The following changes will be in place during the work:

  • Elizabeth Street closed to vehicles between George and Edward streets. Detours will be in place.
  • Loading zones will be closed on Elizabeth Street between George and Edward streets
  • Localised footpath changes and temporary closures on Elizabeth and Albert streets with signed detours in place
  • The CityLink Cycleway on Elizabeth Street will be maintained during this work, with sections of the cycleway temporarily detoured via the opposite footpath.

 

Property access

  • Vehicle access to properties on Elizabeth Street will be maintained under the direction of traffic control
  • Access to the Uptown car park will be maintained via the Elizabeth and George Street intersection under the direction of traffic control. Vehicles will be required to exit the carpark via the south-bound ramp on Charlotte Street.
  • Access to Wilson Parking and Hilton Brisbane will be maintained via the Edward and Elizabeth Street intersection under the direction of traffic control.

 

Public transport changes

  • Some bus stops will be temporarily closed, and buses will stop at alternate locations. Please see information overleaf for impacted services and alternate stop locations. You can plan your journey using the links at the bottom of the page.

Bus stop changes

Due to the road closure, some buses will temporarily stop at alternate stops during the work. Please see below for impacted stops and alternate stop locations. Plan your journey using the links at the bottom of the page.

You can view the affected bus stops in the list below:

  • Elizabeth Street Stop 81 near George Street (Stop ID: 000081) will be closed. It will affect the following inbound bus routes: 105, 112, 172, 184, 185, 202, 210, 212. The temporary alternate stop will be Adelaide Street Stop 18 at City Hall (Stop ID: 000018).
  • Elizabeth Street Stop 82 near George Street (Stop ID: 000082) will be closed. It will affect the both the inbound and outbound 555 bus route. The temporary alternate stop for inbound services will be Adelaide Street Stop 22 (Stop ID: 000022) and the temporary alternate stop for outbound services will be Ann Street Stop 10 at King George Square (Stop ID: 000010).
  • Eagle Street Stop 63 near Eagle Lane (Stop ID: 000063) will be closed. It will affect the following inbound bus routes: 184, 185, 210, 212. The temporary alternate stop will be Adelaide Street Stop 27 near Creek Street (Stop ID: 000027).
  • Queen Street Stop 66 near Adelaide Street (Stop ID: 000066) will be closed. It will affect the following inbound bus routes: 184, 185, 210, 212. The temporary alternate stop will beQueen Street Stop 67 near Ann Street (Orient) (Stop ID: 000067).

Work hours

Work will be undertaken continuously from 9am Saturday 21 September to 1pm Sunday 22 September.

This activity is subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions. If required, this work will be rescheduled to the next available date. A revised date will be communicated when available.
 

What to expect

You can expect:

  • Increased noise, vibration and dust associated with the use of heavy machinery and equipment.
  • Traffic delays. Please plan your journey and allow additional time if travelling through the area.
  • An increase in construction workers and vehicles in the area.
