Installation of signalling infrastructure – August 2025

A new digital signalling system is being progressively installed to key parts of the South East Queensland (SEQ) rail network, including in the Cross River Rail tunnels and the area south to Moorooka station.

Details of work

Between 6.00am on Saturday 23 August until 2.00am on Monday 25 August, excavation will be undertaken within the rail corridor near the Gloucester Street overpass.

These works are essential to support the future installation of cabling under the railway line for the new digital signalling system known as the European Train Control System (ETCS). This cabling will then be connected to a signalling equipment hut being installed in the rail corridor near Gloucester Street in early 2026.

Under track crossing works

  • Rock breaking
  • Excavation
  • Compaction
  • Use of lighting towers and generators.

What to expect

  • Increase in dust, vibration, noise and worksite lighting
  • Personnel and work vehicles in the rail corridor close to your residence.

Every effort will be taken to minimise the duration of noise-generating works and disturbance to surrounding residents and businesses.

Thank you for your patience as we build a new digital signalling system. ETCS plays an important part in the future of our network, delivering increased safety, capacity, efficiency, and reliability for a sustainable transport network.
