Extended track closures

From Friday 3 April to Sunday 26 April, there will be track closures and travel changes for multiple major project works to build a better rail network.

Different lines will be impacted at different times, so please consider your transport options, plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

These track closures are required for major project works for:

  • Cross River Rail Delivery Authority
  • Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade (Stage 1)
  • Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail
  • Loganlea Station Relocation
  • Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP)
  • European Train Control System digital signalling
  • general track maintenance

These works are essential to upgrade South East Queensland’s rail network as it undergoes a once in a generation upgrade to support our growing population.

Building you a better rail network

These works are part of a network-wide rail program including rail upgrades on the Sunshine Coast,the new underground line through Brisbane, new digital signalling and the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project.

Works across multiple rail projects have been scheduled together during April which include major bridge works, significant track removal and realignment, installation of signalling and cable infrastructure, large-scale drainage as well as building and upgrading train stations.

  • Friday 3 to Monday 6 April

    • Airport line trains will run between Domestic and International Airports and Eagle Junction station, then run express to Northgate to connect with the Caboolture line
    • If you’re travelling towards the city, catch a train to Eagle Junction station and transfer to a bus to continue your journey
    • If you’re travelling towards the Gold Coast catch an express railbus at Eagle Junction station, then transfer to a train at Banoon station
    • Caboolture line trains will run express from Petrie to Northgate, stopping at Geebung station. From Northgate, trains will run express to Eagle Junction station and connect to the Airport line.
    • After 10pm, trains will terminate at Eagle Junction station
    • If you’re travelling towards the city, catch a train to Northgate station and transfer to a railbus to continue your journey. There will be plenty of buses available at Northgate station, including express and all stops services.
    • Sunshine Coast line trains will not operate between Caboolture and Gympie North
    • Some journeys may take significantly longer than usual. Please consider your transport options, plan ahead and allow extra travel time
    • You may need to catch more than one bus to get to your destination, or make transfers between buses and trains
    • There will be buses available between Caboolture and Gympie North, including express and all stops services.
    • Doomben line trains will run between Doomben and Eagle Junction stations, with minor timetable changes
    • If you’re travelling towards the city, catch a train to Eagle Junction station and transfer to an all stops bus or express bus to continue your journey.
    • All Ferny Grove line services will terminate at Boggo Road.
    • Redcliffe Peninsula line trains will run between Kippa-Ring and Northgate stations
    • If you’re travelling towards the city, catch a train to Northgate station and transfer to a railbus to continue your journey. There will be plenty of buses available at Northgate station, including express and all stops services.
    • Shorncliffe line trains will run between Shorncliffe and Northgate stations
    • If you’re travelling towards the city, catch a train to Northgate station and transfer to an express or all stops railbus to continue your journey. There will be plenty of buses available at Northgate station, including express and all stops services
    • Shorncliffe station is closed for an accessibility upgrade
    • Beenleigh and Gold Coast line trains will run as a combined all stops service between Varsity Lakes and Banoon stations; there will be no express service. This train will run to an altered timetable
    • Timetabled railbuses will replace trains from Banoon to Boggo Road stations during the track closure
    • If you’re travelling to the city, catch an express or all stops railbus at Banoon station and transfer to a train at Boggo Road station
    • StationLink route 19 will be available between PA Hospital and Rocklea station
    • All Cleveland line services will terminate at Bowen Hills.
    • All Ipswich/Rosewood line services will terminate at Bowen Hills. Some service times departing Bowen Hills will change
    • All Springfield line services will terminate at Bowen Hills. Some service times departing Bowen Hills will change.
    • There will be service changes to Queensland Rail travel services, with bus services to / from Gympie North. Queensland Rail Travel customers will be kept up-to-date about alternative travel arrangements.

  • Tuesday 7 April to Friday 10 April

    • All lines will operate with peak services every 15 minutes, except Rosewood and Doomben (30 minutes).
    • Airport line trains will run between Domestic and International Airports and Eagle Junction station, then express to Northgate to connect with the Caboolture line
    • If you’re travelling towards the city, catch a train to Eagle Junction station and transfer to a bus to continue your journey
    • If you’re travelling towards the Gold Coast, catch an express railbus at Eagle Junction station, then transfer to a train at Banoon station
    • If you’re travelling from the city, catch an express railbus at Roma Street station, then transfer to a train at Eagle Junction station
    • Caboolture line trains will run express from Petrie to Northgate, stopping at Geebung station.
    • If you’re travelling towards the city, transfer to an express bus at Geebung station or transfer to an all stops service at Northgate station.
    • Sunshine Coast line trains will not operate between Caboolture and Gympie North. There will be plenty of buses available between Caboolture and Gympie North, including express and all stops services.
    • Doomben line trains terminate at Eagle Junction station and will be 3-car trains only. There will be minor timetable changes.
    • If you’re travelling towards the city, catch a train to Eagle Junction station and transfer to an all stops bus or express bus to continue your journey.
    • Ferny Grove line services will be linked with Cleveland line until 7:30pm when services will terminate at Boggo Road.
    • Redcliffe Peninsula line trains will run between Kippa-Ring and Northgate stations
    • If you’re travelling towards the city, catch a train to Geebung station and transfer to an express railbus for Central and Roma Street stations or you can catch a train to Northgate station for the express and all stops services to Bowen Hills.
    • Shorncliffe line trains will run between Sandgate and Northgate
    • If you’re travelling towards the city catch a train to Northgate station, transfer to an express or all stops railbus to Bowen Hills, then transfer to a train for city stations. There will be plenty of buses available at Northgate station, including express and all stops services.
    • Shorncliffe station is closed for an accessibility upgrade.
    • Beenleigh and Gold Coast line trains will run as a combined all stops service between Varsity Lakes and Banoon stations; there will be no express service. This train will run to an altered timetable
    • Timetabled railbuses will replace trains from Banoon to Boggo Road stations during the track closure.
    • If you’re travelling to the city, catch an express railbus from Fruitgrove station to the CBD and Central or you can catch an express railbus at Banoon station and transfer to a train at Boggo Road station
    • There will be plenty of buses available at Banoon station, including express and all stops services
    • StationLink route 19 will be available between PA Hospital and Salisbury station.
    • There will be changes to timetables and no express services
    • The line is linked with Ferny Grove Line until 7:30pm, then terminates at Boggo Road.
    • All Ipswich/Rosewood line services will terminate at Bowen Hills. There will be changes to timetables and no express services
    • All Springfield line services will terminate at Bowen Hills. There will be changes to timetables and no express services
    • There will be service changes to Queensland Rail travel services, with bus services to / from Gympie North. Travel customers will be kept up-to-date about alternative travel arrangements.

  • Saturday 11 April

    • If you’re travelling towards the Gold Coast, you can catch an express railbus at Eagle Junction to Helensvale station, or you can catch an express railbus at Eagle Junction to Boggo Road station, then change to an express or all-stops bus to other Gold Coast stations.
    • Caboolture line trains will run express from Petrie to Northgate, stopping at Geebung station.
    • If you’re travelling towards the city, transfer to a bus at Northgate station to Bowen Hills where you can connect with a train
    • Sunshine Coast line trains will not operate between Caboolture and Gympie North
    • There will be buses available between Caboolture and Gympie North, including express and all stops services.
    • If you’re travelling towards the city, from Caboolture, catch a train to Northgate and transfer to a rail bus to Bowen Hills for trains to city stations.
    • Doomben line trains terminate at Eagle Junction station and will be 3-car trains only. There will be minor timetable changes.
    • If you’re travelling towards the city, catch a train to Eagle Junction station and transfer to an all stops or express bus to continue your journey
    • Ferny Grove line services will terminate at Boggo Road.

    • If you’re travelling to the Airport, catch an express bus from Helensvale to Eagle Junction station, then transfer to a train

    • From 06:00am to 7:00pm, trains will depart six minutes early from Bowen Hills only.

    • From 06:00am to 7:00pm, trains will depart six minutes early from Bowen Hills only.
    • There will be service changes to Queensland Rail travel services, with bus services to / from Gympie North. Travel customers will be kept up-to-date about alternative travel arrangements.

  • Sunday 12, Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April

    • Buses will replace trains between Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road station
    • There will be plenty of buses available to get you where you need to go, including express and all-stops railbuses and regular bus services. Catching a regular bus service may be a better option for getting to/from the city.
    • If you’re travelling towards the city, catch an express railbus to Boggo Road station and transfer to a train

    • Buses will replace trains between Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road station
    • Some railbuses will make an additional stop at Eight Mile Plains station to connect you with regular bus services that may get you to your destination faster
    • High-frequency buses run along the busway from Eight Mile Plains station to South Bank and Brisbane City
    • If you’re travelling towards the city:
      • catch an express railbus from Beenleigh to Boggo Road station (peak only) and transfer to train; or
      • catch an express or all stops railbus to Eight Mile Plains or Rochedale stations and transfer to a regular bus
    • If you’re travelling to South Bank or South Brisbane, catch an express railbus to Boggo Road then transfer to a train
    • If you’re travelling to a station between Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road, you can catch an express or all stops railbus or the StationLink route 19, all stops Rocklea to PA Hospital
    • If you’re travelling to the Airport,
      • catch an express bus to Boggo Road then transfer to an Airport train; or
      • catch ane express bus to Eagle Junction then transfer to an Airport train
    • Airport line trains will run between Domestic Airport and Boggo Road stations
    • If you’re travelling towards the Gold Coast, catch a train to Boggo Road station and transfer to a railbus
    • If you’re travelling to the Airport from the Gold Coast:
      • catch an express bus to Eagle Junction and transfer to a train; or
      • catch an express bus to Boggo Road and transfer to a train

  • Monday 20 to Friday 24 April

    • Airport line trains will run between Domestic Airport and Cleveland line stations from first service until 7:30pm. After 7:30pm, Airport line services will run between Domestic Airport and Boggo Road stations
    • If you’re travelling towards the Gold Coast catch a train to Boggo Road station and transfer to a railbus.
    • Doomben line trains terminate at Eagle Junction station and will be 3-car trains only with minor timetable changes
    • If you’re travelling towards the city, catch a train to Eagle Junction station and transfer to a city bound train.
    • Ferny Grove line trains will run between Boggo Road and Ferny Grove stations
    • On Wednesday 22 April, catch a rail bus from Roma Street for services after 9:30pm
    • Shorncliffe line trains will run between Sandgate and terminate at Roma Street until 7.30pm, then link to the Cleveland line as per normal.
    • Shorncliffe station is closed for an accessibility upgrade.
    • Beenleigh and Gold Coast line trains will run as a combined all stops service between Varsity Lakes and Banoon stations. This train will run to an altered timetable, there will be no express train
    • There will be plenty of buses available, including express and all stops services.
    • If you’re travelling to the city, catch an express railbus from Fruitgrove
    • If you’re travelling to Boggo Road station and beyond, catch an express railbus to Boggo Road station and transfer to a train.
    • If you’re travelling to stations between Banoon and Boggo Road, you can catch the all stops bus or the StationLink route 19 between PA Hospital and Rocklea station
    • If you’re travelling to the Airport, catch an express bus to Boggo Road and transfer to a train or catch an express bus from Banoon to Eagle Junction.
    • On Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 April, buses will replace trains on all lines between Bowen Hills and Albion to Boggo Road and Milton after 9:30pm
    • On Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 April, buses will replace trains on all lines between Bowen Hills and Albion to Boggo Road and Milton after 9:30pm
    • On Wednesday 22 April, catch a railbus from Roma Street for services after xxpm
    • On Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 April, buses will operate all lines between Bowen Hills and Albion to Boggo Road and Milton after 9.30 pm
    • On Wednesday 22 April, railbuses will operate between Roma Street and Northgate and to Ferny Grove for services after 9.30pm
    • On Thursday 23 April, rail buses will operate between Bowen Hills and Northgate from 10:30pm.

  • Saturday 25 April to Sunday 26 April

    • Airport line trains will terminate at Boggo Road station
    • If you’re travelling from the Airport to a station south of Boggo Road, catch a train to Boggo Road and transfer to a railbus
    • If you’re travelling to the Airport from south of Boggo Road:
      • catch an express railbus from Banoon to Boggo Road station and transfer to an Airport train; or
      • catch an express bus from Eagle Junction and catch a train
