After hours system testing
Testing of the new railway signalling system is underway along the Shorncliffe Line as part of the Cross River Rail Project.
Details of testing
During February, a test train will operate between Bindha and Shorncliffe stations.
To ensure safety, this must be completed after hours when revenue service trains are not running as per the schedule below:
From Bindha and Shorncliffe between 11.59pm and 5:00am on Monday 20, Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 February 2023 (three nights) the following will occur:
- A test train will operate between Bindha and Shorncliffe stations each evening.
- Traffic control will be in place at Adams Street, Kennerley Street, Curlew Street and Palm Avenue level crossings and at the Nudgee pedestrian crossing (city side of Nudgee station).
- Horns will sound as per normal operations. Generators will be used at radio mast sites at Sandgate, North Boondall, Nudgee and Northgate.
What to expect if you live alongside the rail corridor
Residents may see work teams and hear noise associated with the testing (e.g. personnel and light vehicles in around signalling huts, radio mast sites and level crossings). On nights the test train is operating, residents may see and hear trains outside normal operating hours.
All staff will be fully briefed about their community responsibilities in relation to minimising noise and disruption after hours.
Small generators will be used periodically over the coming months to support system testing at the radio mast and antenna sites at Sandgate, North Boondall, Nudgee and Northgate. Temporary noise barriers have been installed at North Boondall, Nudgee and Northgate to minimise noise for nearby residents.
