Transforming Travel - Woolloongabba

In addition to bringing high-capacity commuter train services to Woolloongabba for the first time, the new Cross River Rail station will also be catalyst for a vibrant new urban community including access to significantly expanded public and open space.

The area will benefit from the addition of the underground train station combined with the upgrades to the Gabba Stadium announced for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, including a new pedestrian plaza linking the stadium to the new Cross River Rail station.

Woolloongabba will be just 3 minutes by train to the new Albert Street station in Brisbane’s CBD and 2 minutes to Boggo Road, a rapidly growing health, science, and education precinct.

The 220-metre-long station platforms will be set approximately 27 metres below the surface, with multiple escalators and elevators to carry passengers from the platform to the concourse.

Almost 18,000 people are expected to use the new Woolloongabba station each weekday by 2036, with many more during big game days.

Woolloongabba Station and Precinct concepts

Cross River Rail doesn’t just mean a new high-capacity underground station for The Gabba, it means there is an opportunity to develop a new ‘Station to Stadium’ precinct above the station. This video includes concept developments and designs which are not final or approved.
