Fairfield station reopening

On Monday 9 January 2023, Queensland Rail and Translink in collaboration with UNITY Alliance will reopen Fairfield station to train services.

When the station reopens, access to platforms 1 and 2 will be via stairs only while construction continues.

 

Thank you for your ongoing patience during the accessibility rebuild of Fairfield station.

When the station reopens, some facilities and infrastructure will be temporary, including pedestrian access points, lighting and CCTV. A temporary ticket office with a ticket machine and toilet facilities will be located on Equity Street for station customers. go card readers will be located on both platforms at the entry and exit points.

Upon opening, Fairfield station will only be accessible via stairs while construction continues on the lifts. If you require ramp or lift access, please continue to use Yeerongpilly station or StationLink bus route 109. Notification will be provided prior to the new overpass, lifts and ramps opening, which is expected to be in late-2023.

The weekend prior to the station reopening (Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 January 2023) there will be temporary closures of the pedestrian overpass to allow works to be completed safely prior to the station opening for the first train service on Monday 9 January.

Details of ongoing work

Construction will continue at Fairfield station with infrastructure opening in stages until late-2023. The following construction activities will continue between 6.30am and 6.30pm Monday to Saturday behind construction hoarding. Some activities will be completed outside of standard working hours during planned track closures and road closures:

  • Continue construction of a new platform 3, including completion of the station building and facilities
  • Installation of permanent station services, including CCTV, signage, lighting and ticket facilities
  • Continue construction, fit out and commissioning of the three new lifts, stairs and pedestrian overpass
  • Reconstruction of car parking bays on Equity Street, bicycle shelter, footpaths and landscaping on Equity Street, and footpaths on Mildmay Street at the station entry
  • Heritage shelter restoration works.

UNITY Alliance will notify residents and businesses before out of hours works.
