Construction update Normanby rail corridor and Victoria Park

Between December 2020 and January 2021, UNITY Alliance will be required to undertake works for several activities including drainage, relocation of public utilities, decommissioning of redundant rail infrastructure and track construction in the Normanby rail corridor and Victoria Park area.

 

Details of work

The following activities are scheduled to occur between December 2020 and January 2021. These works will occur during both day and night shifts. Standard working hours for the project are 6:30am to 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday. Night shift works will occur between 6:30pm to 6:30am, Monday to Saturday.

  • Relocation of an existing sewer main within Victoria Park (day and night shift)
  • Drainage works will continue within a small section of Victoria Park adjacent to the Brisbane City Council (BCC)
    Maintenance Depot (day shift)
  • Installation of drainage and earthworks within the Normanby rail corridor (day and night shift)
  • Decommissioning of redundant rail infrastructure and track construction within the Normanby rail corridor (day and night shift)
  • Early works to prepare the area for the future construction of an electrical feeder station (day shift).

 

Out of hours work

Additional activities will occur outside the project’s normal working hours but are timed to take place within a planned weekend track closure, as outlined below:

From Roma Street to Bowen Hills and intermittently between 10:00am Thursday 24 and 12:00am Tuesday 29 December 2020, the following works will occur:

  • Signalling and commission works
  • Track and maintenance works.

Along the Normanby rail corridor and intermittently between 2:00am Saturday 23 and 2:00am Monday 25 January 2021, the following works will occur:

  • Overhead mast foundation installation, signalling and track work within the rail corridor.

Along the Normanby rail corridor and intermittently between 2:00am Saturday 30 January and 2:00am Monday 1 February 2021, the following works will occur:

  • Overhead mast foundation installation, signalling and track work within the rail corridor.


 

What to expect

  • Some noise, vibration and dust associated with the use of heavy machinery and equipment such as excavators, tip
    trucks, vacuum excavators, water carts and concrete trucks
  • Delivery trucks and workers’ vehicles entering the rail corridor via Gregory Terrace and the existing Victoria Park
    access road
  • Changes around your local area such as construction vehicles, flashing lights, reverse beepers, traffic management
    signs, lighting towers to light the work area at night
  • Construction signage and placement of temporary fencing around construction areas.
