Joe Baker Street – utility relocation work

In preparation for construction in 2020, the Cross River Rail project team will relocate existing utility infrastructure along Joe Baker Street and Boggo Road including telecommunications, electricity, gas, water and sewer.

Details of work

From mid January 2020, utility relocation work will commence on both Joe Baker Street and Boggo Road and will continue for approximately six weeks. Some of these works are being performed progressively by the utility asset owner/s and will include:

What to expect

Some traffic and pedestrian changes will occur during these activities (see map overleaf for further details) which include:

  • stop/slow traffic control along Boggo Road and Joe Baker Street
  • intermittent pedestrian access changes along Joe Baker Street
  • intermittent closure of some car parking spaces on the northern end of Joe Baker Street.

Access to businesses and properties will be maintained at all times. Some work may be required at night due to traffic restrictions and to maintain the safety of the community and our workers. We will notify nearby residents of upcoming night works.

During these activities, you may notice some minor disruptions such as:

  • increased levels of localised noise and dust from the use of machinery such as excavators, concrete saw, vacuum trucks, trucks, asphalt placement compaction roller, plate compactors and specialist vehicles for treading and connection works
  • increased construction vehicle movements on local roads and around the work area
  • delivery of plant, materials and equipment to the work area.

Workers may arrive onsite one hour prior to the planned start time to prepare for the day’s activities.

Service interruptions

Any service interruptions as part of this work will be notified to affected properties by utility asset owners prior to any outages. Planned and emergency service outages can also be monitored through service providers’ websites:
