Construction update Fairfield to Rocklea

During March 2021, UNITY Alliance will continue work within the rail corridor between Fairfield and Rocklea stations for construction of the Cross River Rail project.

 

Details of work

The following activities are scheduled to occur between 6:30am and 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday, during March 2021, weather and construction conditions permitting:

  • General station works including survey and visual inspections
  • Identification and relocation of public utilities (water, sewer, communications and electrical)
  • Overhead electrical line inspection and construction works
  • Track and maintenance works between Fairfield and Rocklea stations.

 

Out of hours work

The following activities will occur outside the project’s normal working hours, but are timed to take place within planned weekend track closures, as outlined below.

At Fairfield station and intermittently between 2:00am Saturday 20 and 2:00am Monday 22 March 2021, the following works will occur:

  • Track lowering preparation (e.g. survey) and track maintenance works
  • Cable service relocation, undertrack crossing installation works
  • General station works including survey and visual inspections.

At Rocklea station and intermittently between 2:00am Saturday 20 and 2:00am Monday 22 March 2021, the following works will occur:

  • Overhead electrical line mast foundation works
  • Installation of overhead electrical lines and masts
  • Traffic control in place to maintain pedestrian access across rail corridor (see map over below)
  • General station works including survey and visual inspections.

At the commuter car park at Rocklea from 6:30pm Friday 19 to 5:00am Monday 22 March 2021, the following works will occur:

  • Full closure of the Rocklea station commuter car park
  • Pedestrian access maintained from Railway Parade to Brooke Street.

Signage will be in place to direct pedestrians and cyclists around works areas. Please observe the directions of traffic control while passing through the area.

Extended works will also take place during a rail closure over the Easter long weekend and school holidays from Friday 2 to Wednesday 7 April. Detailed notification for these works will be provided in advance.

What to expect

During these works you may notice some intermittent disruptions such as:

  • Delivery of plant, materials and equipment to the project corridor
  • Light vehicles, trucks and machinery including excavators, frontend loader, mobile cranes, vacuum truck, small power tools, drills, saws, minor vibrating equipment and mobile lighting towers to light work areas at night
  • Changes around your local area such as construction vehicles, traffic management signs and personnel
  • Some noise, vibration and dust associated with the use of heavy machinery and equipment
  • Placement of temporary fencing around construction areas.
